EVE Beacon is an unofficial, fan-made EVE Online companion tool. This notice explains what data EVE Beacon collects when you link an EVE Online character, why, and how you can remove it. EVE Beacon does not collect your real name, postal address, or payment details, and does not run advertising or analytics trackers.
When you sign in with EVE Online, EVE Beacon receives and stores the following for each linked character, via EVE's ESI API:
This data is tied to your EVE Online character, not to any real-world identity beyond whatever you've chosen to reveal through that character.
EVE Beacon stores an encrypted OAuth refresh token for each linked character so it can keep that character's data up to date without asking you to sign in again. This token is encrypted at rest and is only ever used to make requests to EVE's own ESI API on your character's behalf.
Your browser is given a signed session cookie containing a random identifier — not your name or character ID — that EVE Beacon uses to remember which linked characters belong to your browser. A second, non-sensitive cookie carries a CSRF token used only to confirm that state-changing requests (like signing out or unlinking a character) genuinely came from your browser. Neither cookie is used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Your data is used solely to display the map, character list, and the skills/assets/contracts details within EVE Beacon for you. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers or analytics providers.
The only external service EVE Beacon communicates with on your behalf is Fenris's own EVE SSO and ESI infrastructure, which is required to fetch your character's data from EVE Online in the first place. That exchange is governed by Fenris's own privacy practices, not this notice. We do not share your data with any other third party.
A linked character's data is kept until you unlink it. You can unlink any character at any time from its detail card on the map — this immediately and permanently deletes everything EVE Beacon has stored for that character (location, wallet, skills, assets, contracts, and orders). Signing out only clears your browser's session cookie; it does not delete any character's stored data, so signing back in will show that data again.
Traffic to EVE Beacon is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and OAuth refresh tokens are encrypted at rest. Our hosting infrastructure may log standard request metadata (such as IP addresses) briefly for security and operational purposes, consistent with normal web server operation.
EVE Beacon does not knowingly collect data from anyone who does not meet Fenris's own age requirements for an EVE Online account, as every character shown here belongs to an authenticated EVE Online account.
This notice may be updated as EVE Beacon's features change. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above.
